A Chat with a Fairy Godmother…

A Chat with a Fairy Godmother…

Traci Kenworth

We have as our guest here today, Maggie Winters from The Fairy Godmother’s Files by Rebekah L. Purdy. And if we’re extremely lucky, we might get a sneak peek of the hotness that is Seth. Okay, question time:

Do you prefer “Maggie,” or “Mags?”  It depends on who’s calling me. LOL. But either is fine.

And what is your occupation or “secret identity?” Can you explain what that entails? (Checks behind her for any listeners or friends).  “Well, the truth is I’m a Fairy Godmother. I know, crazy, right? I mean, I’m sixteen and should be worrying about prom and school, and well tons of other stuff. The job itself is kinda insane. Whenever my “assignment” needs me, POOF, I’m jerked from whatever I’m doing and dropped in on them (no matter where they’re at). Yeah, talk about embarrassing (not even gonna tell you about the bathroom visits—yikes). But it’s all about helping people get there happy endings so it’s worth it—well most of the time.”

When did all of this happen? “A few days ago. So I’m still getting used to everything—er…especially flying. And before you ask, I’m totally denying the flagpole incident! Seriously, that could’ve been anyone’s thong/butt on Max Weller’s phone.” (ducks head)

Are you currently taking clients? “Well, I don’t really get a say in who my clients are. Whoever’s image shows up in the sphere is who I have to help, regardless of what I think of them.”

Do you believe in happily-ever-afters? What is a threat to them, do you think? “I definitely believe in happily-ever-afters, well, at least now I do. Seeing all the people Grandma has helped. As for the threats against the happy endings…”(leans in closer) “There are these beings called Grimms who try to stop me from helping people.  Their sole purpose is to wreak havoc. Which means that sometimes people get hurt or worse.” (shivers) “They’re kind of like the Dark Side of the Force, if you know what I mean.”

And you go to school full time? How do you handle that, the files, and life in general? “Ugh! Don’t get me started on school.” (laughs) “Mr. Trapper, totally hates me.” (buries her head in her hands) “If I pass his classes, it’ll be a miracle. As far as handling everything, well, it’s hard to juggle. I mean, I have homework, friends, and now Godmother duties. The hardest part is not being able to tell my friends.”

Tell us a bit about the people in your life. “OMG! My friends are the greatest—well, when they’re not trying to meddle in my life. Taylor and Seth are my best friends and believe it or not we hang out with my brother Jackson too—yeah, don’t ask, we have the same circle of friends. My dad is pretty non-existent in my life as of late (due to his new girl-friend—gag me). My mom’s a lawyer and is gone a lot, but she’s great as far as covering for me.”

What’s it like having “The” Fairy Godmother as your grandmother? “Great. Grandma is always there for me. Although, it was hard to believe the whole Fairy Godmother thing when she first told me, I thought she’d gone mad. Obviously, I believe her now.”

Rumor has it that you have a crush on someone? Care to tell us who? (Blushes) “Well, there’s this hot guy at school…”

(Enter Seth.) (Snorts) “Oh brother, she isn’t talking about Captain Tool again, is she?”

(Maggie rolls her eyes). “Connor is NOT a tool! Seriously, Traci, Connor is like the king of hotness…Seth’s totally jealous.”

(Seth reaches over and tugs on Maggie’s hair). “Not a chance. Trust me, the guy’s a real moron. He has pictures of himself playing football hanging in his locker. Mags can do better. Much—much better.”

So Seth, can you tell us what it’s like being friends with Mags? Does she do lots of dashing off like Wonder Woman or Super Girl? How does that make you feel? ‘She’s fun to hang out with. We play fight a lot and I usually win.” (he winks)

Yeah right.” (Maggie slaps him in the leg) “He wishes.”

“She’s fun to mess with because she blushes so easily. Like the other day when she went to get me a towel for my shower and was staring my bare chest.”

“Oh no you don’t! You’re so not going there.” (Looks at Traci) “He’s so not going there.”

(Seth chuckles). “See? It’s so easy to get a rise out of her. As for dashing off, she’s been doing that a lot more lately, I think that tool, Connor, has been rubbing off on her. So yeah, I worry about her sometimes.”

Nice tattoo. Can you tell us what it means? (Seth tugs at his shirt to hide it and shrugs). “Not much to tell. I got it when I went to visit my dad this summer. The chicks seem to dig it though.”

“Whatever.” (Maggie rolls her eyes again, then elbows him in the ribs)

“What? They do.” (He grins, dark hair falling across his forehead). “Maybe I should tell Traci how much you stared at it when I was in the towel…”

“Can you let the towel thing go already? Sheesh!”

Back to Mags. Where do you see your future headed? “I’m not sure. I mean, I can only take everything a day at a time.”

Thank you both for your visit. (Maggie shakes Traci’s hand) “Thanks for having me, it’s been fun.”

(Seth stands, his turquoise eyes following Maggie). “Yeah, and if you ever want the details on the towel thing, let me know—I’ll give you an exclusive.”

“Seth!”

(He laughs again, dodging Maggie).

And now for some information on The Fairy Godmother Files: Cinderella Complex Author: Rebekah L. Purdy…

Would you like to give us a blurb about your book? Sixteen-year-old Maggie Winters can’t think of anything more exciting than junior year. There’s her first prom to look forward to, she can drive, and most important Connor Prince has finally noticed her. But unfortunately so has the school snob, Katrina Melville, who goes out of her way to make Maggie’s life a living hell. If that’s not enough, Maggie’s grandma has decided to retire, which doesn’t seem like such a big deal. That is until she finds out her grandma is a Fairy Godmother, and not just any Fairy Godmother. The Fairy Godmother, as in Cinderella, pumpkins, and mice. And she has informed Maggie that she’s next in line to become the new Fairy Godmother.

At first Maggie is excited, the whole getting wings, flying (or rather trying not to crash), and a wand that lets her grant wishes. It’s like being a superhero, without all the action, explosions, and spandex. Then she gets her first assignment, Katrina Melville, her nemesis. And if that doesn’t make her want to poof herself into oblivion, she finds out that part of Katrina’s happily-ever-after is Connor Prince. Life is so unfair. Even worse, she can’t tell her two best friends about any of it and they’re getting sick of her disappearing acts. Then there are the dangerous creatures, called Grimms who will stop at nothing to keep the happy endings from being fulfilled, even if it means destroying the Fairy Godmother responsible. With time running out, Maggie has to make this wish come true or it will ruin the fates of everyone involved, and open the world to darkness beyond imagination. Maggie will soon find out what it truly means to be a Fairy Godmother—and it isn’t all about princes, gowns, and wings, but something much more.

What was the highlight of writing this book? The characters! I absolutely LOVE them. You get to take them through this journey and see how their relationships grow and see how they deal with their struggles. But it’s fun too! I mean there are some laugh out loud moments that I cracked up while writing.

I take it you enjoy fairytales? Absolutely. There’s something about good vs evil and happy endings that just give you hope.

Might there be a sequel? This book is planned as part of a trilogy. I’m hoping once I’m finished with another project that I can get back to this world. I really want the readers to see Maggie’s journey come full circle.

Rebekah is currently working on a sequel to My Dad’s a Paranormal Investigator: Seeking Shapeshifters and a totally hush-hush project.
